“How does my child get started on XYREM?”

The importance of proper XYREM dosing and titration for pediatric patients.1

The starting XYREM dose in pediatric patients is based on patient weight.1

  • XYREM is an oral solution, taken at night divided into 2 doses.1
  • For patients who sleep more than 8 hours per night, the first dose is taken at bedtime, and the second dose is taken 2.5 to 4 hours later.1
  • The first dose of XYREM may be given at bedtime or after an initial period of sleep, while the patient is in bed.1
  • In the pediatric clinical study, >90% of XYREM-naïve patients were able to titrate to an efficacious and tolerable XYREM dose using the recommended regimen.2

Starting and titrating XYREM in pediatric patients.

  • The recommended starting pediatric dosage, titration regimen, and maximum total nightly dosage are based on patient weight, as shown in the table below.1
  • The dosage may be gradually titrated based on efficacy and tolerability.1

Recommended XYREM Pediatric Dosing for Patients Ages 7 Years and Older1*

Xyrem pediatric dosing for patients ages 7 years and older chart

*For patients who sleep more than 8 hours per night, the first dose of XYREM may be given at bedtime or after an initial period of sleep.

If XYREM is used in patients 7 years of age and older who weigh less than 20 kg, a lower starting dosage, lower maximum weekly dosage increases, and lower total maximum nightly dosage should be considered.

Note: Unequal dosages may be required for some patients to achieve optimal treatment.

XYREM offers a flexible dosing regimen that allows for titration for an appropriate therapeutic effect and tolerability for each patient. Pediatric dosing is initiated and titrated based on patient's weight.1
Once an effective dose has been established, follow-up every 3 months is recommended.1
