“How does XYREM work in my body?”

XYREM has been shown to be rapidly absorbed and eliminated.1

In XYREM clinical studies...

  • Rapid absorption was observed, with absolute bioavailability found to be about 88%1:
    • Tmax: 30–75 min.
    • t1/2: 30–60 min.
  • Pharmacokinetics were nonlinear. Doubling the dose from 4.5 g to 9 g1,2:
    • Increased blood levels by 3.7-fold.1
    • Increased mean Cmax by 2.4- to 2.9-fold.2

Time(h)

*Mean oxybate concentration (±SEM) vs time after total doses of XYREM 4.5 g and 9 g administered in 2 equal doses given 4 hours apart in 12 healthy volunteers.4

Single doses greater than 4.5 g have not been studied.1

XYREM has been shown to have reduced bioavailability when taken with food.1,4

In a XYREM clinical study...

  • Both mean peak plasma concentrations and mean amount of XYREM exposure decreased when taken with food.1,4
  • Patients should be reminded...
    • To wait at least 2 hours after eating before they take their first dose of XYREM, because food reduces the bioavailability of XYREM.1

Single doses greater than 4.5 g have not been studied.1
